The Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas. Pandyas, and the Vijayanagara have all ruled over the city. British changed its name to Coimbatore. The city’s proximity to the Nilgiri hills imparts a pleasant climate. Summers are hot and winters are mild.
